Soon thereafter, I took the post of Head of Laboratory where I was able to practice my profession as a full pledged Clinical Pathologist where I performed Microscopic evaluation of cytology and hematology specimens submitted to the laboratory and prepared reports on the findings; was regularly involved in supporting customers with the interpretation of laboratory results generated with the in-house instruments; assisted with the development and validation of new assays offered to clients; Spearhead and participate in the laboratory Quality Assurance programs; and performed internal training of staff for growth and development.

As the Department of Pathology grew, the residency training program was reinforced and I was assigned as Training Officer. Two years later I was designated Chairman of the Department where I became responsible and accountable to the Medical Director for the effective conduct of the Department’s patient care activities including performance evaluation and other quality maintenance functions delegated to the Department. As Chairman I was also member of several relevant Hospital Committees such as the Hospital Transfusion Committee, Hospital Prevention and Control of Infection Committee, HIV Committee, Safety Committee, Internal and External Disaster Committee and a Core member of the Joint Commission International Preparation and Accreditation Committee among others.

My services were soon employed for a new start up stand alone laboratory (LH Prime Medical Clinic) where I played a lead role in the initial conceptualization, from planning of the lay out of the laboratory, documentation of business processes such as patient registration, cashiering, pre-analytics like patient and specimen collection, analytical phase to include quality control, post analytical phase including reports releasing, archiving and specimen retrieval. Human resource functions on candidate selection, hiring, training, coaching, discipline and termination formed part of my duties.

When Chong Hua Hospital Cebu decided to build Chong Hua Hospital Mandaue in 2012 my wealth of experience in setting up, management and operating a laboratory was pivotal to my role in the design, and conceptualization of the new facility. My role then expanded to other areas as Vice President for Medical Ancillary Service in 2015 to include Laboratory Operations, Dietary and Nutrition Service, Pharmacy, Eye Institute, Executive Check Up, Pulmonary, Rehabilitation Medicine, Cardiology, Endoscopy/Bronchoscopy, and Neurophysiology. In 2018 the Aesthetics Center, Wellness Gym and Anti-Retroviral Therapy Club were added to my scope.

As VP for Medical Ancillary Service my role was to guide respective Department leaders in the achievement of the respective Departmental goals; Directed the creation and establishment of the respective Departmental policies and procedures that aligns all service offerings to the Organization’s vision of providing safe and excellent healthcare to patients; as a member of the Executive Committee, I participated in key business decisions and recommended concepts and best practices that promoted competitive and quality healthcare across the Organization; Aligned all these activities with the Top Management and Organization’s Vision and Mission; Championed the Division’s continuous performance improvement and quality compliance and implementation activities.
